Description
Salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM; synonym: 2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid N,2-Dihydroxybenzamide) is an inhibitor of the alternative oxidase (AOX). When AOX is blocked by SHAM, electrons are forced through the Q-cytochrome c oxidase pathway (Q-CIV pathway), allowing observation of the operation of the Q-CIV pathway without AOX activity.
Abbreviation: SHAM
Reference: Parrino_2000_J_Exp_Biol
Application in HRR
- SHAM: Salicylhydroxamic acid (99%; HOC6H4CONHOH); Sigma S 607, 5 g, store at RT; FW = 153.14.
Caution: Irritant!
- Preparation of 20 mM stock solution (dissolved in DMSO):
- Weigh 6.1 mg of SHAM.
- Dissolve in 2 ml of DMSO.
- Divide into 0.2 mL portions
- Store at -20 ยฐC.
- Preparation of 20 mM stock solution (dissolved in DMSO):
- O2k Manual Titrations: MiPNet09.12 O2k-Titrations
- Titration volume: 100 ยตL
- Final conc. in 2 mL O2k chamber: 1 mM
