I have used the Sigma Cat as well, but not for titration studies. It works perfectly at 1-2 Β΅M concentrations, if you want to block completely all ANTs. The MW is 770.8.

The Sigma Cat originates from Atr extracted from Xanthicum sibericum. A carboxylation is a further chemical modification. The Merck Cat originates from Atr from Atractylis gummifera, which is identical to that from Xanthicum. A carboxylation is a further chemical modification. Because of this modification which is man-made, there may be different potencies. For titration studies (0-200 nM Cat), the one from Merck (Atractylis gummifera) is strongly recommended. - Christos (2012-04-19)

Unfortunately Merck does not sell the Cat from Atractylis gummifera anymore and currently only offers the Cat extracted from Xanthicum sibericum (as does Sigma). - Michael (2012-04-20)

Carboxyatractyloside vs. atractyloside
Gnaiger E: When we used atractyloside (Atr), carboxyatractyloside (Cat) was off the market, hence we had no other choice. Cat is available again. Even if it costs more, it is worth more, and with Cat available, I would not bother to find out more about Atr.
Chinopoulos C: I have used the Sigma Cat as well, but not for titration studies. It works perfectly at 1-2 Β΅M concentrations, if you want to block completely all ANTs. The MW is 770.8.

Bioblast alert - concept

Here is a brief summary on the concept of Bioblast alert.

Some of the following topics (not more than four per alert) will be selected for a Bioblast alert.

MiPNet O2k-Publications

MiPNet Laboratories of the World

Contact the MiPNet laboratories: show link on the wiki, ask for updates on group, references, website, perhaps major projects (HypoxiaNet), perhaps add pictures, perhaps keywords/short description. Circular: link to presented lab / special occasion (e.g. publication; conference presentation; new member; PhD thesis, ..

High-resolution terminology

  • high-resolution terminology - matching measurement at high-resolution. Term of the week: Basal respiration
  • Define – Measure: terminology and experimental approach
  • Define – Clarify: consider discrepancies, resolve problems

MiPevents

  • Conferences and Workshops

Bioblast

  • What is new or updated on the website: Lists (chemicals, protocols, scientific service, ..)
  • Projects in mitochondrial science (COST HypoxiaNet; Framework programs; ..)
  • Links on the Bioblast website; networking in mitochondrial science, presentation of: MIG List, Mitochondrion journal and website; Mitochondrial Societies
  • MitoCom News

Bioblast editors

A Bioblast editor may select an O2k-Publication (or a small number of related publications), particularly from a MiPNet Reference Laboratory, may get in contact with the particular reference lab, update info on the lab, and β€˜present’ the lab in the alert. A term may be selected (perhaps related to the publication), updated, discussed in our group, and then presented in the alert. An editor does not even have to present an entire alert, but may prepare individual β€˜points’, which then can be added to a particular alert. As Bioblast is updated, the updated β€˜article’ (term, publication etc) can be added to the prepared points for a future alert.
