OROBOROS Science Scholarship
OROBOROS Science Scholarships are offered for focused research projects on mitochondrial physiology and high-resolution respirometry. Recipients will join the O2k-Team for a period of typically 3 months, for extending international cooperations in the Mitochondrial Physiology Network with young and experienced scientists, or for initiating long-term postdoctoral projects.
We share our experience and capacity for high throughput in high-resolution respirometry (with up to six Oxygraph-2k or 12 chambers operated in parallel). PhD students or postdocs may join us for a defined project in the Mitochondrial Physiology group of E. Gnaiger at the MitoCom Tyrol Laboratory, Medical University of Innsbruck and OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS. This project will provide an in-depth introduction or extension of previously gained expertise in
- the technical details of high-resolution respirometry,
- the preparation of permeabilized tissue (in particular muscle fibers), tissue homogenates or permeabilized cells for OXPHOS analysis,
- the conceptual basis of OXPHOS analysis with respiratory substrate-uncoupler-inhibitor titration (SUIT) protocols when working with isolated mitochondria, permeabilized cells or tissue homogenates,
- participation as a tutor in an O2k-Workshop on high-resolution respirometry.
The scholarship may initiate an application for a postdoc grant (Marie Curie Fellowships etc.) to join us for a full postdoc project.
How to apply
- Contact Erich Gnaiger and Verena Laner.
To initiate such a project, we would define the project with a realistic time plan for the experimental work, fitting into the research interests of the collaborative teams. OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS provides financial support, accomodation and free registration for an O2k-Workshop.
